WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Why does God hate strife in the family? Proverbs 6:16,19
Why does God hate strife in the family?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Six things ADONAI hates, yes, seven are abominations to Him: a false witness who spouts lies . . . and one who stirs up strife among brothers. Proverbs 6:16,19
Be warned. Don’t mess with my family. We may be as dysfunctional as two flat tires on a rickety bicycle, but it’s my family.
As we can see by verse 19, GOD feels that way about His family—us. Whether strife is caused by outsiders to the family, or within it, our Abba does not like it. In fact, He abhors it.
The definition of abhor is to regard something with disgust and hatred. Wow.
Scripture says GOD is love (1 John 4:8), so for Him to abhor something, it has to get Him really riled up. Do you know why stirring up strife among the family gets Him angry? Because of His Son, Jesus.
Yeshua prayed for unity within His Father’s family in John 17. Before His death when the most important things on His heart weighed heavy, He prayed that His Jewish followers—so fragile in their faith—would be one with the people of the nations who He was calling (John 17:20-23).
The nations—the Gentiles—whom GOD had forbidden them to associate with for thousands of years.
Many of the Jewish people didn’t realize that one day GOD would call them out to share His Light to the nations. (Isaiah 60:3)
Luke was big on reminding the Jewish people that the set time had come to show the Light to the world. (Luke 2:32; Acts 13:47; 26:23) The world who followed pagan faiths.
That these pagans who worshiped a plethora of gods, who had orgies in their temples, who sacrificed their children on altars, who drank blood, now GOD was saying it’s time to go out and preach the Good News, immerse them, and train them up as His children. His family.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Ruach ha-Kodesh [the Holy Spirit], teaching them to observe all I have commanded you. And remember! I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
That's why our Father in Heaven abhors those who create strife among His family. It's kind of cool when you think about it. Our Daddy, ready to battle against those who try to hurt us.
But, remember He wants the WORLD as His family. We need to remember that the same person who tries to give us a difficult time, may one day be our brother or sister. We don't know who will answer our Father's call. And, that's a good thing--it keeps us humble and observant.
May we pursue unity in the family of GOD, my friends.
