What does wisdom "taste" like?


 TODAY'S PROVERB: A fool finds no delight in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. Proverbs 18:2

Let's face it, this wisdom thing is hard work. It takes a concerted effort to study, listen, learn from mistakes, seek wise counsel, and most importantly, seek the LORD. To enjoy the delights of the full-meal of wisdom, we have to put in the work.

I don't know about you, but sometimes, especially in the early years of living wisdom's journey, I was willing to settle for the crumbs. But, trying to nurture my life with these few nibbles wasn't possible.

At some point, don't we want more? To learn from our mistakes? To know WHY a decision wasn't wise? To not just give our opinion of what went wrong or what we should do, but to KNOW based on sound knowledge, discernment, and understanding? To dine on the whole meal?

My husband and I love cooking shows, especially the beautifully produced programs. The artistry of these chefs is amazing. The experienced ones seldom take shortcuts. They understand their resources and seek to place more on the plate than a meal--they place beauty and deliciousness. If we treated the pursuit of wisdom with such refinement, what would that look like in our life? Sigh. Amazing, I suspect.

Do you remember the first time you truly knew you used the full meal of wisdom on a decision? It wasn't simply a gut guess or a hopeful decision. It was a decision that came with the confidence in knowing you knew what to do. To not only make a wise decision, but to know you were being obedient in the process. How great was that!

The wonder of our search for wisdom, discernment, knowledge, and understanding is that it's all worth the effort.

Today, if we see a crumb of wisdom, we know there's a meal somewhere and we won't be satisfied until we find the buffet of delight.

May we find delight in GOD's wisdom and dine well, my friends.

Are you being diverted? TODAY'S PROVERB: Do not turn to the right or to the left. Divert your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27 I love flying at night. Are you a voice for God's covenant? TODAY'S PROVERB: ...to deliver you from a seducing woman—a wayward wife with seductive words, who forsakes the partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. Proverbs 2:16-17 Infidelity. The last few generations tend to think infidelity was something they created. For certain they have developed it into an art form using film, music, literature, and now, social media. Throughout Scrip ture and history, women have played as much of a role in this sin as men. Honestly, as women, we should know better. These days, women tend to look at fornication and adultery as their rights -- their choice. We can justify and defend all we want, but the truth is that it all boils down to this: our choice is whether we sin or don't sin. Not a popular thing to say. WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Are you lame or reliable? Proverbs 25:19

Are you lame or reliable? TODAY'S PROVERB: Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is confidence in the unfaithful in time of trouble. Proverbs 25:19 I have a "trick" ankle. There appears to be no rhyme or reason when it decides to give out. I'll take a step and it's like the bones turn to rubber. A misstep on stairs or a ladder or while carrying something can be treacherous. If I knew what caused the weakness then I could avoid  placing demands on it. But, alas, I don't know, so I can never fully trust it. Today's proverb counsels us about "trick ankle" people. Do you have people like this in your life? For the most part, they are reliable, but at unpredictable -- and inevitably important moments -- they are not reliable. Even when we forgive them for these events, we're still unsure if we can depend on them. It leaves a small residue on our ability to trust them completely -- at least for a season.
