WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Are you close to temptation's Point of No Return? Proverbs 7:27
Are you close to temptation's Point of No Return?
TODAY'S PROVERB: Her house is a highway to Sheol,
leading down to the chambers of death. Proverbs 7:27
There's a warning of imminent danger: The point of no return. Like today's proverb, the naive-turned-foolish young man hit the point of no return in verse 22.
Once he followed his temptation--and the woman--there was no turning back. He now had to live with the repercussions of his actions.
Do we always know that point? The place where we're "locked in" to whatever the result will be of our choice and/or sin?
We've talked about flirting with temptation. Walking that razor's edge of giving in or walking away.
Remember Joseph? (Genesis 39:7-23) He saw the point of no return when Potipher's wife enticed him to sleep with her. He recognized the cost of sin: his life, betrayal of GOD's and Potipher's trust, loss of integrity, the sin of adultery. He could see there was no convincing this woman, so he ran.
Because the Holy Spirit is within us, we have an early-warning system to temptation.
The better we know our Father's word, the better we can hear those warnings. The better we know our own weaknesses, the better we can call on the LORD to give us strength.
Temptation is all around us. Sin is sin, whether infidelity or calling someone a mean name (Matthew 5:22).
Know that there are opportunities to turn away from temptation long before the point of no return. Let's be like Joseph and run!
May we run from temptation, my friends!
