WISDOM'S JOURNEY: How are we counted? Proverbs 16:19

How are we counted?

TODAY'S PROVERB: Better to be lowly in spirit with the afflicted than to share the spoil with the proud.
Proverbs 16:19

At first glance, this proverb might seem to represent the difference between the executive and the laborer. The wealthy and the poor. Or even the difference between the corporate world and the nonprofit sector. I suppose in some instances, this could be applicable.

However, I think whatever our position, whether lowly in spirit or sharing spoils with the proud, it always goes to the heart--our intention, our motivation.

Honestly, we can be just as prideful in a lower position as in a higher one. We can even feel prideful of our affliction.

When we live in our thoughts of self-justification, it's easy to slip away from where GOD wants us to be. What do I mean by that?

If we're wealthy we can make excuses for actions that promote sin because we believe our blessings and power exempt us being righteous in all endeavors.

If we're "less than wealthy" we can make excuses for feelings of envy and jealousy. Or, even doubt the goodness of GOD.

How do we keep our heart centered in Him? In all we do, whether in executive offices or the floors of a fast food restaurant, we must seek humility and gratitude. That place is sacred and safe. And, it's the richest place to be.

May we be counted among those wealthy in humility and gratitude, my friends.
