WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Do you sometimes feel the stick of a thorn? Proverbs 15:19
Do you sometimes feel the stick of a thorn?
TODAY'S PROVERB: The way of the slacker is a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway.
Proverbs 15:19
While a slacker is defined as a person who avoids work or real effort, we can all struggle with the thorns of life. When we don't want to do something we can find a million reasons to keep from doing or completing it.
These "thorns" can be real or imagined, but whatever they are they keep us from moving forward to be who GOD called us to be. And, to do what He called and made us to do.
What are your thorns? Mine are fear and a number of insecurities. I'm not afraid of hard word--I am afraid of failure.
Sometimes I run into that hedge of thorns before a challenge. Other times it's during. If it's an especially difficult, long-term task, I'll run into several hedges.
What do we do with those barriers in our life? How do we face the thorns of fear, indecision, disappointment, or whatever stands in our way?
As prickly and painful as those thorns may be, they can reveal wrong thinking we might have. When that thorn pricks us, pray for discernment. Let the Holy Spirit show us the falsehood, the lie the enemy is using to confuse and discourage us.
Once we identify them, we can take the Sword of the Spirit--and chop them down (Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12). His Word will make short work of those thorns, so that we can push through to the highway waiting there to move us forward.
May we push through those thorns, my friends.
