Who helps you when you stumble?
TODAY'S PROVERB: The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble. Proverbs 4:19
Wickedness thrives outside the light--outside GOD's light. Is it any wonder that they stumble?
Before we "blink" past this proverb, I think we can glean some helpful insights into this passage for our journey.
We can all stumble. Sometimes there are burdens and emotional or sinful entanglements that trip us up at the most inopportune moments (Hebrews 12:1). These issues we're aware of and cause us to take time correcting ourselves over and over again. Why not allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the root of those burdens and entanglements, and help us release and untangle from them? (Hebrews 12:2)
We may stumble because there are dark areas in our life we don't see (John 11:9-10). It could be our tongue (Jacob/James 3:2). It could be pride (Proverbs 24:17, Jeremiah 50:32). It could be a critical heart (Romans 14:13). It could be substance/alcohol abuse--not necessarily addiction, but misuse (Isaiah 28:7, Proverbs 20:1). It could be those things we place before GOD, idols (Ezekiel 14:3-4).
There's also the fear of stumbling (Leviticus 26:37). What if we play it safe. We're afraid to "run" because we don't want to stumble? Sometimes--okay, most times--I think GOD wants us to be brave. To step out and run (Proverbs 4:11-12, Isaiah 40:30-31). We may think we're too young, or too old, or not smart enough, or even brave enough to run the race GOD has called us to enter. If He has called, He'll equip. We just need to dig a little deeper into our faith and trust in Him.
And, here's our promise to all these stumble warnings, the LORD will uphold us (Psalm 37:24). When we stumble, grab His hand. He wants us to succeed, to overcome, to be brave, and to run!
May we grab His hand, my friends.
