How do you shine?

TODAY'S PROVERB: The light of the righteous shines brightly. The lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
Proverb 13:9

This proverb reminds me of Matthew 5:14-16:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Oh my. So many ways to develop these images, but the one that ready stands out [pun intended] is that the light represents all the good works GOD does through us.

Why wouldn't we want to stand tall and shine? Are there things causing us to hide under a "basket" and not be who our Heavenly Father created us to be? To be lights in a dark world?

The "basket" I deal with regularly is fear. Fear of confrontation. Fear of man. Fear of getting involved. Fear that it will drain me too much. Fear is a big basket.

I've noticed that when I'm too tired and too focused with my own concerns, it's easier for me to give in to fear. When I'm listening to the LORD and in a place of praise, off goes that basket.

What is your basket? What keeps you from shining brighter in this world?

Something to think about.

May we shine brightly, my friends.
