Are there scoundrels in your life?
TODAY'S PROVERB: A scoundrel, a wicked man, is one who goes around with a perverse mouth, winking his eyes, shuffling his feet, pointing his fingers, who continually plots evil with deceit in his heart stirring up strife.
Proverbs 6:12-14
Well. This guy sure appears to be the definition of a scoundrel. But, really, is it fair for King Solomon to judge him so harshly?
Perhaps he had a difficult childhood. Therefore, he doesn't know any better. Is it his fault? Shouldn't he be treated with compassion . . . not judgment?
This brings up an interesting topic: What do we "do" with discernment?
In the Biblical sense, discernment is the ability to determine right from wrong, truth from lies, fact from error. Discernment is measured within Biblical truth and values.
For example, we are taught to test the "spirits" to see if they are from GOD, because there are a lot of false prophets and teachers (1 John 4:1).
What is the next step to that discernment?
Don't follow that teacher or prophet. Most likely they will lead us on a path away from our Heavenly Father.
Let's go back to our Scoundrel Guy. We've discerned from his behavior that he is wicked, perverse, a plotter, and has deceit in his heart. Discernment also says, don't ask them to babysit or watch your purse. They will most likely NOT be trustworthy or dependable. And, we definitely should not be yoked with them (2 Corinthians 6:14).
Now, having said all this, sometimes, with some people, GOD calls brothers and sisters to those very scoundrels. Ministries to prisoners, exotic dancers, etc., exist to share GOD's loving kindness and Good News. These souls are lost. They have not accepted Yeshua's hard won atonement for them. They are scoundrels. Nevertheless, He loves them and those called to those ministries must use a large measure of discernment to work with them.
For those of us NOT called to these types of ministries, we must step away from the danger to ourselves and our families. Be thankful for the discernment and pray as we exit. Do not enter a battle that is not ours.
May we use discernment wisely, my friends.
