What do we serve?
TODAY'S PROVERB: One who gets wisdom loves his own soul. One who treasures understanding prospers. Proverbs 19:8
Okay my fellow Wisdom's Journey travelers, I've discovered another so-called "archaic" definition. It's for the word understanding--and I believe it's key to getting more out of today's proverb.
The archaic definition is: having insight and good judgment. The "contemporary" definition: comprehension or to perceive the intended meaning of words, language, or a speaker.
Insight and good judgment. These are such important attributes to wisdom. They define a line that says this is right, this is wrong. This is true, this is not.
While the contemporary definition is okay, it's a weak substitution for clear morals and discernment that comes from GOD's wisdom.
I like to look at wisdom as a home. Inside that home are rooms that serve different purposes. Knowledge, discernment, and understanding all reside there.
To me, understanding is the kitchen and dining room. Understanding are the hands of wisdom that serve to others.
Understanding is the part of wisdom that has gained practical insights through experience and knowledge. Understanding is comfortable with this knowledge and is able to serve it to others.
Knowledge is the continued pursuit of GOD's wisdom. It's done for ourselves and it's good for our soul. Understanding is how we walk it out and help others to understand as well.
A few days ago I wrote of the "Apple Pie" method of sharing wisdom's insights. It takes a certain finesse and grace that comes from true understanding.
Finding ways to help others understand wisdom is an honor and an art. We can do this by spoken and written word, but also by deed and example. When we treasure understanding, we are wisdom's ambassador. And what better way to prosper in this Wisdom Journey.
May we prosper in wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and understanding, my friends.
