What are your treasures?
Proverbs 20:15--There's just something about knowing the answer to someone's question. The Bible has many passages about those good feelings and many of them are compared to precious metals and jewels (e.g., Proverbs 25:11). Why is that?
I suppose the obvious is that what precious metals and stones are to wealth, wisdom and knowledge is to our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. It's the wealth that can't be lost, stolen, or destroyed.
Gold is considered valuable because it is the more stable of the precious metals and has been and is still used as currency. It has a low enough melting point that it can be smelted, is rare, but not impossible to find, and is relatively non-reactive, so it won’t rust or explode when exposed to different substances.
The ruby is the most valuable of the colored gemstones. Second only to diamonds. Cultures have treasured them and consider them to represent love, passion, and power.
Being able to respond to questions with fitly spoken words requires many years of preparation. We mine for knowledge. We carefully pick through the dross of this world to find GOD's truth experience. We screen this knowledge through GOD's word to find the real gold. This knowledge is refined through the fires and chisels of GOD's wisdom. Only when they have been through the investment of time, resources, and experience are they truly precious.
Each day we walk this wisdom's journey, we mine, pick, refine, chisel, and form the wealth of knowledge that will benefit those around us.
We do this because first, GOD has invited us to--it's His gift to us. And second, He wants us to share His wealth with others. It's pretty exciting. And probably why the wealthiest man in the world, King Solomon, felt that knowledge and wisdom was more valuable than all his riches.
May we mine for the true wealth, my friends.
