Did you know . . .?

Proverbs 7:3--I love this passage. I actually remember my grandmother talking about tying a string around the finger to remind her to do something. Today I still do a version of this with a folded up piece of paper stapled to my purse. Same simple principle, just as effective.

Have you ever wondered where some of the sayings and traditions come from? You might be surprised to learn that many of them have their origins in Jewish culture.

From strings around fingers to spring cleaning to how we pray, Judaism is interwoven into our daily lives.

It's no wonder. The Jewish people were entrusted with nearly every mandate given by GOD--His law, His instructions, how to eat, relate to others, take care of their families. Prayer, praise, and worship are steeped in Jewish tradition because they come from the heart of those who adored Him. King David. King Solomon. Moses. Miriam. Abraham. Isaac. Jacob.

And if we're ever unsure how NOT to do something, the Jewish people were just as adept at doing it wrong as doing it poignantly well. They're more than object lessons for us, they were real live people God mentored and set apart for Himself.

The Bible we read was entrusted to the Jewish people for thousands of years (Romans 3:2)--and today, with the Tree of Life Version that tradition continues. From Genesis to Revelation, Jewish scholars, priests, fishermen, and kings were trusted with GOD's very words.

And then there are the advances in technology, agriculture, medicine, and so much more.

We owe so much to the Jewish people. I guess that little string around the finger is as much a reminder of GOD's precepts as it is the messengers of His word. When you thank the LORD for His many blessings, I hope you'll remember His Jewish people. And while you're at it, please pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).

May we remember Your people, my friends, in great gratitude.
