Are you calling out?
Proverbs 2:3--Why does someone "call out?" For many reasons. When I first came across the use of term, I immediately thought of calling out for delivery. Then I thought of calling out sick.
The actual definition is: an instance of being summoned, especially in order to deal with an emergency.
In chapter one we talked about what happens when we ignore wisdom calling out to us--ignoring God's correction and teaching--too many times (Proverbs 1:20-33). Wisdom says she will turn her back on us when we call out in an emergency.
Yikes. This is pretty serious stuff.
Does this mean we need to be perfect? Absolutely not. That's not going to happen while we're on this sweet earth. We'll always be a work in progress. We'll continue to make mistakes--hopefully less now that we're on wisdom's journey.
What God is always looking for is the ear that is attentive to wisdom and the heart that is inclined to discernment (vs. 2). He knows we our frame, He remembers we're but dust (Psalm 103:14). He's not going to expect perfection, just perseverance.
That means, my friends, when we are struggling with an "emergency" and need an elevated understanding of wisdom, we can call out and He will answer. Through revelation in the word or wise counsel or prayer, or all three, He will respond.
So call out, lift up your voice, and wait for His answer, my friends.
