Whose child are you?
Proverbs 3:7--Being wise in our own eyes is a child of pride. We see the world in the color we choose and we truly believe we have the answers. The problem is our view will always be limited to our own understanding.
Søren Kierkegaard, a Danish philosopher and theologian once said, "The proud person always wants to do the right thing, the great thing. But because he wants to do it in his own strength, he is fighting not with man, but with God."
Most of us want to do the right thing--to make a difference. GOD may have even given us a vision and passion for some great exploit for His kingdom. The tricky part is to remember it's His kingdom. It's His work.
The moment we take matters into our own hands and manipulate circumstances to fit our idea of His plan, we lose our focus on GOD.
Sigh. I understand the temptation to do this. When GOD gives us a passion for something--a sweet, hopeful vision for what could be--and years, decades later it still has not come to fulfillment, it's difficult to not find a way to make it happen. But the moment we do that, the moment we attempt to do it in our own strength, we are fighting with GOD.
That's scary. That's no joke.
Sometimes we think we are wise enough to figure it all out. After all these years, I'm amazed by how little I know. When I feel that urgency to use my own wisdom and experience to discover the way to make something happen, I have to step back. That urgency takes me out of GOD's place of peace and into my own world. And that's the last place I want to be.
May we fear GOD and turn away from our own wisdom, my friends.
