Can you handle the truth?
Proverbs 18:17--If you're a teacher or parent, you know the routine:
Parent/Teacher: Who did this? Child #1: I didn't do it! She did!Child #2: No, it wasn't me! He did it!Child #3: Did what?
If only we outgrew that routine.
It's our nature to sway a story in our favor, especially once the "blame finger" is involved and there are repercussions.
It is natural to want to side with our friends in a situation, or with the person who appears the most innocent.
However, in either case, we not only shouldn't, we can't. We can't if we intend to follow the wisdom journey and live in the place of integrity.
It's difficult to be impartial, but the first step is to listen, carefully, to both sides of the story. Assume that the full story most likely won't be revealed until we hear both sides. Also, unfortunately, assume that the story might be embellished--intentionally or unintentionally.
When appropriate, cross-examine for inconsistencies.
Then, pray. GOD sees all we do and knows our hearts. Having His insights is important.
Our goal as decision-makers is to find win-win resolutions, as best we can. Being right is only half the solution. Sometimes, our decision can change someone's perspective and point the way to a loving, but just GOD.
May we seek the whole story, my friends.
