Are you trustworthy with someone's heart?
Proverbs 31:11--All kidding aside, women have a lot more power than they realize. As with any superhero and superpower, we can use it for good or evil or just for our own purposes.
This passage hints at the impact we can have on our husband's wellbeing and success. It also speaks of a sweet intimacy and friendship that can bless our socks off.
After over 40 years of marriage, I've learned that more than anything my husband wants for me to be happy. He loves when I affirm or compliment him--and he's the least vain person of anyone I know. It took me a long time to realize this, unfortunately.
The first years of our marriage--if I am truly honest, the first 10-15 years of our marriage--my husband didn't trust me. It had nothing to do with fidelity, it had to do with his heart. He was never certain that other than the LORD, there was no one I loved more than him. Or respected more. Or wanted to spend more time with. Truth was there were a lot of people I would elevate, respect, or want to spend time with other than my dear husband.
Here's a sort of silly example of what I mean. Did you ever have two sets of bath towels? The regular towels and the "company" towels? The regular bath towels were what we used every day, but the "company" towels were used only for guests. No one in my family could use the company towels.
And then, one day, it struck me that I was treating my guests better than my own husband, my own family. Why?
That realization trickled down into all sorts of little rules I had made that marginalized--however unintentionally--my family. Why was I keeping the "valuables" away from my greatest earthly love? My time, my attention, my love, my heart--my towels.
Now, when guests arrive, we treat them as family. They share in what we have by choice.
And, my dear hubby? He knows--after the LORD--he is #1. As I am with him. He trusts his heart with me, and I consider it my greatest joy.
May our husband's heart trust us, my sisters.
