Are you a member?
Proverbs 15:31--Correction comes in many forms:
- It could be a red circle on a test indicating the wrong answers.
- It could be a harsh rebuke that yanks us back from the wrong path.
- It could be a simple expression of disapproval from someone we respect.
- It could be an evaluation of something that went wrong, and we were the one to blame.
If we truly strive to dwell among the wise, we must heed all types of correction.
By paying attention, we focus and examine ourselves to first see if the correction is, well, correct. Then we apologize or repent or both. Then we make any necessary restitution.
The final step is probably the most difficult. We are grateful.
Being grateful for correction grants us membership into that elite corps of the wise. My suspicion is there aren't many members. It's difficult to spot the membership because they wear the cloak of humility.
But, I know they're out there.
Sigh. I have a long way to go to dwell with this group, but the journey is to always try.
May we dwell with the wise, my friends.
