Are we building our plans or following His counsel?


Proverbs 19:21--Have we ever gotten carried away with an idea? Made it into something it was never intended to be?

Sigh. I sure have. Many times.

The LORD showed me a "picture" of what I tend to do. In this "picture" I was climbing a mountain and it was getting pretty arduous. Fatigue had set in and He said it was time to rest.

There was a crag on the mountain face with enough room for me to lie down. As rocky crags tend to be, it wasn't the most comfortable place to sleep. So I somehow caused a pillow to appear. That was definitely better, but I thought it could be even better.

In no time I had a recliner, a floor lamp, a rug, a comfy blanket, and some books.

Finally, the LORD let me know that I had taken His counsel to rest and made it into a living room. My plans to make things comfortable got carried away and turned into something it was never intended to be.

Does anyone else do that?

On the 16th, we talked about what it takes to take the creative spark GOD gives us for an idea, and carry it through. It takes a persistent effort to confirm with the LORD what steps to take next. The same applies to His counsel.

He may say, "Don't eat that steak." So, we might get carried away and think He's saying we're to be a vegetarian. It could simply be, "Don't eat THAT steak."

The only way we'll know for certain is to confirm with Him. We do that through scripture, prayer, and wise counsel from believers strong in the word and who have been long-time wisdom travelers.

We mean well. I mean, ultimately, our goal is to serve our Heavenly Father and be obedient. We just need to be sure that what we're planning is what He's saying to do.

May we follow His counsel and not our own plans, my friends.

Are you being diverted? TODAY'S PROVERB: Do not turn to the right or to the left. Divert your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27 I love flying at night. Are you a voice for God's covenant? TODAY'S PROVERB: ...to deliver you from a seducing woman—a wayward wife with seductive words, who forsakes the partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. Proverbs 2:16-17 Infidelity. The last few generations tend to think infidelity was something they created. For certain they have developed it into an art form using film, music, literature, and now, social media. Throughout Scrip ture and history, women have played as much of a role in this sin as men. Honestly, as women, we should know better. These days, women tend to look at fornication and adultery as their rights -- their choice. We can justify and defend all we want, but the truth is that it all boils down to this: our choice is whether we sin or don't sin. Not a popular thing to say. WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Are you lame or reliable? Proverbs 25:19

Are you lame or reliable? TODAY'S PROVERB: Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is confidence in the unfaithful in time of trouble. Proverbs 25:19 I have a "trick" ankle. There appears to be no rhyme or reason when it decides to give out. I'll take a step and it's like the bones turn to rubber. A misstep on stairs or a ladder or while carrying something can be treacherous. If I knew what caused the weakness then I could avoid  placing demands on it. But, alas, I don't know, so I can never fully trust it. Today's proverb counsels us about "trick ankle" people. Do you have people like this in your life? For the most part, they are reliable, but at unpredictable -- and inevitably important moments -- they are not reliable. Even when we forgive them for these events, we're still unsure if we can depend on them. It leaves a small residue on our ability to trust them completely -- at least for a season.
