Yes! Even us!


Proverbs 22:19--Who me? Even me?

I love this passage. The previous two verses speak of listening to the words of the wise and applying our heart to that knowledge. It encourages us that when we do these things we'll have wise things just flowing from our lips.

Sigh.

For many years, especially the early years of studying and living Proverbs, there weren't too many wise insights that flowed from my lips. I felt like I was mimicking the wisdom of the ages. Would I ever really have wisdom in my heart?

It reminded me of when I was little. I had a toy iron and ironing board. (Yes. Little girls got those types of gifts in the '50s.) The iron plugged in and actually heated up--barely. But when I tried to iron my dad's handkerchiefs, the wrinkles didn't iron out like when my mom did them with her big iron.

I'd press hard and run the toy over and over it, until it looked better than it had, but still wasn't quite what it should be.

The thing is, even though it was a toy, and even though my results were not perfect, I was learning. When I finally graduated to the real iron, I was amazed at how easy it was to whip through a whole stack of handkerchiefs. I moved on to shirts and pants and eventually became proficient at those as well.

What had felt like play, eventually became real over time.

So, my friends, if you are a wise person in training, be encouraged. If you are training your children, be diligent and encouraging. That little "toy" they're using now will one day be a powerful tool for their future.

May we trust in ADONAI to train us up, even us, my friends.

Are you being diverted? TODAY'S PROVERB: Do not turn to the right or to the left. Divert your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27 I love flying at night. Are you a voice for God's covenant? TODAY'S PROVERB: ...to deliver you from a seducing woman—a wayward wife with seductive words, who forsakes the partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. Proverbs 2:16-17 Infidelity. The last few generations tend to think infidelity was something they created. For certain they have developed it into an art form using film, music, literature, and now, social media. Throughout Scrip ture and history, women have played as much of a role in this sin as men. Honestly, as women, we should know better. WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Are you lame or reliable? Proverbs 25:19

Are you lame or reliable? TODAY'S PROVERB: Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is confidence in the unfaithful in time of trouble. Proverbs 25:19 I have a "trick" ankle. There appears to be no rhyme or reason when it decides to give out. I'll take a step and it's like the bones turn to rubber. A misstep on stairs or a ladder or while carrying something can be treacherous. If I knew what caused the weakness then I could avoid  placing demands on it. But, alas, I don't know, so I can never fully trust it. Today's proverb counsels us about "trick ankle" people. Do you have people like this in your life? For the most part, they are reliable, but at unpredictable -- and inevitably important moments -- they are not reliable. Even when we forgive them for these events, we're still unsure if we can depend on them. It leaves a small residue on our ability to trust them completely -- at least for a season.
