Do you build or tear down?

Proverbs 14:1--I think it's pretty interesting that thousands of years ago--before feminism, even before Yeshua's (Jesus) revolutionary views of women--men knew that women build the home.

They also knew that her attitude could also destroy a happy home and family.

Ladies, as wives and mothers, we have a lot of power for good or ruin. Our homes can be a sanctuary or a place to run from. Our homes can be a place of hope or rejection. Our homes can provide love and learning or doubt and fear. And most of this is in our hands.

Did you know one of the most important things to a husband is to have affirmation, even more than respect and sex. From their jobs to sex to taking out the trash, men need to know that they are appreciated and make their wives proud and happy.

It's remembering to take the time to affirm our hubbies that will go a long way in building a happy home.

I noticed that when I began thanking Bob for chores I had once thought he should do without me asking, he began doing them and more, with a smile. It's a pleasure to share in these moments of sweet connection. And the extra help makes me respond in other ways.

What our children want more than anything is to feel secure in our love. Not the latest toy or technology. They need our presence--sometimes in the background, other times front and center. They need to know that when they are disciplined we still love them--and we don't love them less if they disappoint us.

I struggled with reacting to disappointment with our daughter. It didn't mean I loved her any less, but my actions caused her to doubt that. I had to learn how to control my reactions and treat her with both firmness and love. That went a long way in proving to her that she was secure in my love.

What type of house are we building? A Godly, loving home filled with laughter and learning? Or a house we control with criticism and demands?

Let's be wise, my sisters, and build a home where we treat our family as well as we would guests. A home where love is evident as much in what we do as what we say.

A home where GOD resides with joy and goodwill--a place He would want to visit.

May we build our homes with love, my friends.
