Who do you run to?

Proverbs 18:10--A little over two years ago my friend, Cathy and I were held up at gunpoint at a mall parking lot. My friend sat in the front passenger seat while unbeknownst to her I was dealing with a young man outside the backseat, who pointed a gun at me demanding money.

The event lasted maybe 5 minutes, but in that time I kept telling him that Jesus loved him. When I handed him all the cash I had--$12--he demanded my car keys. When I resisted he pointed the gun at my friend--who still didn't know what was going on--and said he would kill her.

At that point I pleaded for her life and explained that she had just survived cancer and to not hurt her. I gave him the keys. He paused. Looked me in the eyes for the first time, and returned my keys. He stood for a few seconds as though not know what to do. I laid my hand on his shoulder and told him once again that Jesus loved him so much.

He turned and walked away.

Once he left my whole body shook. The seriousness of the situation rolled in like huge wages and nearly knocked me down.

I've shared this story many times because it was an amazing testimony of GOD protecting us. But, it was so much more than that.

My daughter said it was like the three of us were in a bubble. That GOD had created this bubble. My friend said GOD was the bubble covering the three of us. Then Daniah said that bubble was a Sacred Place.

In that moment, with cars and people coming and going, a gun pointed at us, my car keys in his hands, we were in a Sacred Place--a strong tower of protection.

It was why my friend couldn't move in her seat even though she heard me speaking with someone. It was why she detected no fear in my voice--only compassion. It was why I spoke of Jesus' love and offered a chance for the young man to choose mercy--to choose to do the right thing.

Here's the thing. Wherever we are with our Heavenly Daddy is a Sacred Space. Widening the Space to include others means GOD is opening us and others He invites in into the realm of miracles.

That's our strong tower. That's where we run. It's above the fray--or even in the fray, He's with us.

May we run to our Strong Tower, my friends.
