Do you sometimes have trouble paying attention?

Proverbs 4:1--There's a funny commercial in Philadelphia that I'm reminded of when I read this passage.

Power companies have trouble with squirrels. Okay. Full disclosure here, I don't really like squirrels--I think they're rats with fluffy tails and can eat through about anything. Including power lines.

The furry beasts would chew through lines causing their demise and hundreds or more people were without power. The power company worked for years trying to solve the problem.

The commercial was the power company's attempt to explain to their customers that they had finally resolved the problem. Some brilliant advertising person settled on a humorous way to let folks know.

The narrator began by showing their failed attempts at preventing the squirrels from dining on lines. The best one was a teacher in front of a classroom of unruly squirrels. The man pointed to the diagrams of squirrels on power lines and various danger messages on the chalkboard.

The squirrels were scampering over desks, chairs, eating pencils, doing what squirrels do.

The instructor tries to settle the room, and even calls out to a few of the critters by name. Finally, in a whiny, nasally voice he yells, "Pay attention!"

My lesson? I don't want to be like a squirrel when GOD tries to speak to me. I don't want to scamper around distracted with my own activities when He's trying to warn me to sit still and Pay Attention!

May we all pay attention and gain much instruction, my friends.
