What do you know?

Proverbs 11:14 (Proverbs Couplet: 11:13-14)--Guess what I've learned? I don't know everything. Shocker, I know.

Somewhere around my thirties I realized I knew less than what I didn't know. As my world expanded, what I didn't know grew. Has that happened to you?

What I learned around that same time was the importance of having trusted, wise counselors. Someone who has lived longer, or wiser than me.

If you're beginning this wisdom journey, be sure you find wise advisers, mentors. We can't do this on our own. We all need guidance in all stages of our life. I counsel people, and I go to others when I need counsel.

Discovering and developing regular go-to, trustworthy counselors takes time and effort. Sometimes personalities on the surface don't seem like they would mesh, but GOD knows what both parties need to make the relationship work.

If you are looking for trustworthy counselors, mentors, and/or advisers that you seek out regularly, there are certain qualities that stand out for good ones.

First and foremost, they love the Word of GOD and spend time in it every day.

They live the Bible, not because they say they do, but because you can see it.

Next, they love to share valuable and practical insights into life and living. They remember their own struggles and aren't afraid to share the difficult lessons they learned.

They are invested in seeing you succeed, even if you are on your way to being more "successful" than they are. They are excited for your journey.

They will help keep you grounded in humility and gratitude because that's the place they abide.

If you find a counselor or adviser that becomes a friend, then you are doubly blessed.

May we have and be trustworthy counselors, my friends.
