It's not just about the honey, honey.

Proverbs 5:3-4—So, all us faithful spouses out there, please beware. Just because we haven’t had an affair, or flirted, or read/watched pornography, there are equally dangerous arenas of sexual temptation—the eyes and the mind.

Yesterday we spoke about how our eyes can pollute our hearts. Today, handsome and beautiful men and women appear before us everywhere. Unless we avert our eyes and cleanse our mind of these images, we run the risk of infidelity of the heart.

Jesus says that if we even lust in our mind, think or speak out impure thoughts, it is considered adultery (Matthew 5:28).

Acting out the lust defiles the heart, mind, body, and spirit with sin. Lust affects the heart, mind, and spirit by sinning against our commitment to fidelity. All are serious.

Until we identify sin as sin, we can’t repent. Until we repent we can’t be forgiven. Once we’re forgiven we can be restored.

As we spoke of yesterday, make a covenant with our eyes (Job 31) so that the next time we see a handsome or beautiful actor or model or even someone in the grocery store we won’t lust. Check our mind to be sure we don’t allow even the smallest of impure thoughts in. If we do, repent and turn away.

It is through this perseverance that we can avoid the snares of sexual sins.

May we all turn away from impure thoughts, and live free, my friends.
