Do you struggle with envy?


Proverbs 14:30--What is the path to a tranquil heart free from envy? Gratitude and contentment.

Envy is the antithesis of gratitude and contentment. Envy is a vortex of want mixed with feelings of lack. It whispers to our heart, "GOD is withholding from you." Our heart responds with, "Why, GOD?"

If we don't silence these thoughts that usurp GOD's sovereignty (2 Corinthians 10:5), our mind can twist and corrupt GOD's word, or worse, His love.


I have a childhood friend who truly has an enviable life. And, oh, how I envied what she had. It wasn't just her beautiful home and adorable, stable family, it was that she knew what was wise and relevant to keep her family and home in harmony. It seemed to me that she had figured out the formula for success.

As much as I loved her, it was difficult to be around her because I always felt less and would never, ever measure up to her amazing standard.

My journey to a tranquil heart began with gratitude. To truly understand GOD's love for me no matter my circumstances. It was about who He is and what He has done.

I had to go back to the beginning--the basics. To remember that my Heavenly Daddy sent His most prized, loved Son for me. That that Son saw me as He died on the cross. That His cost was my gain. All that He did was enough--everything else, was gravy.

Today, I love spending time with my friend. I love hearing about her amazing family and joyful, chaotic life. I seek to learn the wisdom she has acquired and apply to my own.

She is content. So am I.

Do we struggle with envy. Has it kept us from a tranquil heart? Is it time to go back to the basics and remember how to have a grateful heart? To find that contentment in GOD and seek to return to that sweet, sacred place of peace?

Then when envy tries to creep in--and it will try--don't let it in. Guard our tranquil heart with gratitude and contentment.

May we guard our heart against envy, my friends.

Are you being diverted? TODAY'S PROVERB: Do not turn to the right or to the left. Divert your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27 I love flying at night. Are you a voice for God's covenant? TODAY'S PROVERB: ...to deliver you from a seducing woman—a wayward wife with seductive words, who forsakes the partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. Proverbs 2:16-17 Infidelity. The last few generations tend to think infidelity was something they created. For certain they have developed it into an art form using film, music, literature, and now, social media. WISDOM'S JOURNEY: Are you lame or reliable? Proverbs 25:19

Are you lame or reliable? TODAY'S PROVERB: Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is confidence in the unfaithful in time of trouble. Proverbs 25:19 I have a "trick" ankle. There appears to be no rhyme or reason when it decides to give out. I'll take a step and it's like the bones turn to rubber. A misstep on stairs or a ladder or while carrying something can be treacherous. If I knew what caused the weakness then I could avoid  placing demands on it. But, alas, I don't know, so I can never fully trust it. Today's proverb counsels us about "trick ankle" people. Do you have people like this in your life? For the most part, they are reliable, but at unpredictable -- and inevitably important moments -- they are not reliable. Even when we forgive them for these events, we're still unsure if we can depend on them. It leaves a small residue on our ability to trust them completely -- at least for a season.
