Do you "dig up evil?"

Proverbs 16:27--Do we dig up "evil?" There are people who are drawn to chaos. For some, they crave being in the midst of unrest and feel a compulsion to dig it up wherever, whenever they can. They dig up evil with their words.

Others grew up where chaos was all they knew. Unrest for them is familiar. They don't want it, they want peace, but for them it's a foreign land, far away. They feel they wouldn't know the language and customs--they wouldn't belong.

How do they learn the language? How do they leave the familiar place of chaos for a place of peace?

Jacob (James) 3:1-12 gives eloquent instructions of the folly of an out-of-control tongue and how to change a fiery tongue to one of peace.

For those who long for deliverance from the chaos--who long for peace--opening their eyes to their environment will help squelch the chaos within them.

Is unrest around them no matter where they are? We can all run into unhealthy environments, but if we find no matter where we go eventually the culture devolves into chaos and division, we may be the one creating the problem.

If our words sear the hearts of others, then we may have a problem with a fiery tongue. Verse 6 of Jacob (James) says our tongue can pollute the whole body and set on fire our life.

But, in 3:14, GOD instructs us to show our good conduct in the gentleness of wisdom. "And the fruit of righteousness is sown in shalom (peace) by those who make shalom. (3:18)

When we stop digging up evil with our tongues and show our good conduct each day, little by little we'll leave the world of chaos and enter the peaceful land GOD promises us.

May we make shalom, my friends.
