DAY 85 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge

Proverbs 26--As someone who was hungry for affirmation, for a long time I didn't understand how flattery could cause ruin. Someone who gushed with nice things about me was a nice thing, wasn't it? It felt good--until the first time a flatterer showed their true colors.

I believe the flatterer Scriptures point to those who use compliments for their own purpose--whether they're true or not. It has less to do about the person they flatter and more to do about edifying themselves or strategically positioning themselves to gain the upper hand.

In this way a flatterer's motives are like the liar--their intent is to ruin and crush.

Affirmation is a good thing. Thanks for a job well done should be our normal response to someone who, well, does a good job. Respect can be verbalize in an edifying way without going overboard.

Be wary of the flatterer. Watch the eyes. Their sincerity seldom reaches the eyes, and their compliments generally have a noose of exaggeration.

May our affirmation be true, my friends.
