DAY 75 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge
What motivates a warrior? Defense? Obedience? Power? Resources? As much as we dislike violence and war, sometimes it is required when a conqueror wants to destroy our homes and way of life and faith.
What about spiritual warfare? Our weapons are not of this world. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12) If we're wise, we will strategize with the Holy Spirit to battle those powers.
What about those skirmishes of the mind and philosophy? Those righteous conflicts pertaining to society's view of Biblical values--or lack of Biblical values? How do we battle against them?
I think this proverb is especially important for those battles for Biblical values, ethics, morals. The key, I believe is controlling our temper.
Anger over a situation can create passion, and that is a good thing. However, if we are waging a long-term war, we have to operate in shalom (peace) not anger.
Anger will eventually deplete us emotionally and spiritually.
Anger makes the battle personal--flesh to flesh--which could destroy us in the process.
To keep our understanding focused on the Biblical strategy for spiritual warfare and not on the physical instruments the enemy is using, we can take the anger and indignation out of the situation. It will be easier to hear from the Captain of the Hosts (Yeshua).
No matter the size of the conflict, with wisdom comes strategy, and the possibility of resolution and growth. This is because our eyes are not on the battle, but on the One who is our Victor.
May our eyes be on the Victor, my friends.
Proverbs 16:32--Better to be slow to anger than a mighty warrior. One who controls his temper is better than one who conquers a city. Tree of Life Bible Society Tree of Life Version - TLV
