DAY 72 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge

Proverbs 13--We sure love the honor part of this proverb, don't we? But it does come at a cost.

Correction. Discipline. The stinging reprimands to our ego.

Still, I've seen people accept correction graciously. Oh, how I admire them.

Then I've run into people like me who struggle with correction. Seeing it in others makes me realize how unattractive it is in me.

My first response to correction is to wiggle my way out of it. My brain puts up walls. Then within those walls I find ways to defend myself.

It's all about my pride. That old need to be right. That insecurity that GOD will think less of me.

Instead of allowing the instruction to sink in--or maybe hold on to it until I can better reason through it--I go into defensive mode.

So, how do I overcome this? I try.

Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I fail. Then, I keep trying. I remember that even when I fail, Abba still loves me and will patiently keep trying to help me by sending correction my way until I finally get it.

Really, that's all we can do. Keep trying. Keep trying with all the energy we can muster--using the effort we might expend to justify ourselves.

Maybe, just maybe there will come a time when we won't be so afraid of discipline or correction. There won't be enough pride, insecurity, or ego to step on. We'll accept it graciously and be the wiser for it.

May we be honored, my friends.

Proverbs 13:18--He who spurns discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever accepts correction will be honored. Tree of Life Bible Society Tree of Life Version - TLV
