DAY 59 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge
Things happen. Bad things. Sad things. Child molestation. Abuse. Betrayal. War. Gangs. A fallen world is rife with ways to rob, steal, and destroy us.
When these events happen to us--especially as children--our hearts are wounded, perhaps even broken.
These emotions from wounds long past color our lives today. We react differently when we carry the weight of our past. It will manifest in visceral, over-the-top emotions where the situation doesn't warrant that type of response.
Watch how people respond to our reactions. If we pay attention we can identify those moments when our reaction is chained to our past.
One of my old wounds is betrayal. If something doesn't go right--or a friend doesn't follow through--BAM! All the old emotions of betrayal crash into that moment. Somehow the present triggered the past.
The LORD has helped me over the years to identify the sources of the past hurts. Wisdom tells me to step away from the crashing waves of pain and assess the true magnitude of the present situation--not add it to the past.
I'm not always able to do this on my own in realtime--sometimes it takes lots of prayer. Sometimes, I need to talk it out. Sometimes both. But when I do, wisdom triumphs and GOD's will for the situation becomes clearer.
We all have wounds from the past. Decades ago or days ago. GOD can see us through to the place of forgiveness, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and healing.
He saw those moments long before they happened to us and He's already prepared our path to healing and breakthroughs for our spiritual growth.
Our loving Abba is waiting right now to show us.
May we walk in wisdom, my friends.
Proverbs 28:26--Whoever trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will escape. Tree of Life Bible Society Tree of Life Version - TLV
