DAY 30 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge
As a child it's all about honoring our parents and all they try to teach us. As adults it's about honoring our parents for what they've done--and may still be able to offer in our life.
However, as we discussed on Day 23, even if our parents weren't the best and our childhood troubled, we're still commanded by GOD to honor them.
As our parents age and become more dependent upon others, we do have a responsibility to them that's more active. It becomes a new way of honoring and blessing them.
Giving our parents the gift of honor is our choice--obey or not obey. It can be a challenge--emotionally, physically, spiritually, and financially--but it's a wise investment in our own future. That obedience is part of our faith journey.
Over the past few months, these passages in Proverbs and the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy) have been so instructional in taking care of my mom. Those of you who have traveled this road have helped me with testimonies and wise counsel as well.
We all age. In twenty years I hope someone will step up and help me when the time comes, but in the meantime, I want to be part of the generation that blesses my parents.
May we bless our parents, and those like them, my friends.
Proverbs 30:11--There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother. Tree of Life Bible Society Tree of Life Version - TLV
