DAY 23 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge
The con is that sometimes life can throw us a curve. We don't have more than a few moments to partake of that holy time. We must grab it while we can.
That happened to me on Monday morning.
My mom took ill and I've been living in a hospital room with her since that time. While I've continued reading, with a bit of journaling my thoughts, I haven't really prepared the devotional for you, my friends.
Today, I've meditated a bit more on yesterday's proverb and also, today's (which will follow), as it has truly been relevant to what has been happening these last few days.
As I've sat next to my mother's bed, slept in the chair-bed at night, helped her, and held her hand, I feel honored. This woman who bore me, taught me right from wrong, gave me a love for the Bible, she should be cherished.
Our parents should be respected and honored, even if they weren't perfect. Weren't the best. Didn't give us the perfect childhood. When some people speak of their parents, there's heartbreak and loss. Maybe even bitterness and anger.
But we are to honor them more than any reason to or not to do it. We do it because we're commanded to. It's the first commandment with a promise for us personally. And GOD honors His promises.
As our family goes through whatever the next few days bring--and hopefully can go back home soon--we laugh, pray, and talk.
The memories that will stay with me are being made today. The good in the midst of not so good. The gratitude in the unknown. The hope in the now.
May we honor our parents, my friends.
