DAY 14 IN THE 91-DAY NEW HABIT CHALLENGE! #ProverbsChallenge

Proverbs 14--We're two weeks into the challenge to add the habit of reading a chapter of Proverbs each day. How is it going?

Today's chapter focuses on an attribute of wisdom that seems old-fashion: prudence. When was the last time you heard someone say that they wished they were prudent? A prudent person is someone who acts with or shows thought for the future. Sounds pretty relevant for us today.

A prudent person exercises patience. They don't seek immediate gratification. They know that sowing means waiting to reap. It may take weeks, months, or years before they can harvest.

Prudence means being silent and watchful even and especially when around them is chaos.

A prudent person assumes more information is required before making a wise decision--they don't assume they know everything--which is why they avoid many of the troubles others experience.

People may think prudent folks are "lucky" when in reality they are prudent.

For my hubby and I, prudence paid off well. He hired on with a company who had retirement benefits over thirty years ago. Over the years there were many opportunities to go with  companies who could offer more salary. While the salary was better, when we did the math, the increase wasn't that much better given the retirement benefit.

Then  there was something to be said for remaining loyal to those he worked for. In the end, that really paid off in loving his job and the company treating him very well when he retired.

But, we couldn't live off that retirement. We also put money away. We scrimped and did without for many years so that he could retire early. It would have been nice to have used that extra money--especially during the lean years--but we're so grateful today we used prudence in this area.

How could prudence impact our life? Where has prudence played a positive role in our life?

I think prudence may be my new favorite word. How about you?

May we walk in prudence, my friends.
